Join Rabbi Jessica Shimberg and the members of Har Shalom in Missoula, Montana, for a night of introspection, preparation, and reflection as we move into the last full week before the Days of Awe/Yamim Nora’im, the Jewish High Holy Days.
Jewish prayer tradition offers a variety of times during the Jewish calendar to collectively and individually offer prayers for forgiveness/selichot. This practice is a part of daily liturgy, liturgy for fast days, and, in the days leading up to the Jewish New Year ~ Rosh haShanah/Head of the Year, as well as during the ten days between Rosh haShanah and Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement.
Rabbi Jessica will offer some music, prayer, and reflective opportunities and techniques to help us prepare for the turning and re-aiming of this season. The Hebrew month of Elul is a time we are given by the wisdom of our tradition to do the inner spiritual work. This work is called soul accounting/cheshbon ha’nefesh, and is done during a month when the stories of our tradition remind us that we are held in deep love and greatest proximity to the Beloved Creator.
