Shelby Shabbat Afternoon & Havdalah
August 13 at 5:00 am to 6:15 pm
Join East Side Tribe and Rabbi Jessica Shimberg for some sweet communal zen at the confluence of Jewish wisdom and nature’s beauty. Taking advantage of our local natural surroundings, we will meet near the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center on the 2nd (and sometimes 3rd) Shabbat afternoon of each month (see below for full schedule through June 2023).
Each month’s opportunity will include some combination of:
- a poem or prayer,
- gentle physical movement ~ a walk, dance, tai ji, yoga, walking meditation, etc.,
- some human silence,
- chanting or singing,
- conversation, and
And we will end by making Havdalah. Havdalah means distinction/separation; it is a brief, multi-sensory Jewish ritual that distinguishes between a day of rest and renewal (Shabbat) and the six days of creativity and work, our weekly Jewish cycle of time.
Things to bring include: a water bottle, appropriate shoes and clothing for the season, whatever you need to be comfortable.
Dates to put on your calendar: Sept. 17*, Oct. 15*, Nov. 12, Dec. 10, 2022; Jan. 14, Feb. 11, Mar. 11, Apr. 8, May 13, June 10, 2023
*3rd instead of typical 2nd Shabbat afternoons; winter times will switch to 4:00-5:15 p.m.
