Rosh Chodesh (head/rosh of the month/chodesh) provides a monthly opportunity to celebrate potential in our lives and to release that which is not serving our wellbeing. Chodesh shares a root/shoresh with the Hebrew word new/chadash.
In Jewish tradition, our texts tell stories of the ways in which this holy day, when the moon is new and dark, belongs to women. In our Rosh Chodesh offerings, HoldingTheFringes provides a time to explore stories (old and new, written and on our lips) of the women (and others) who have influenced and shaped the flow of Jewish wisdom over the ages. We also take the time to examine our own stories and the meta-stories in which we participate, and notice our capacity to reshape the narratives of our lives and move forward in darkness and light and all of the in-between. Together, we will harness the power of ritual, experience the ways in which the moon’s cycles mirror our own, and create community.
